Nimes has two faces, the everyday face, and the ferias… Bull-fights in the Nimes arenas, running with the bulls, concerts, markets, "bandas" parades, soirées in the bodegas, a Sevilla-style village and various other traditions from Camargue culture… This September the city of Nimes will erupt in a festive shower of events and activities! These major festivals (the Pentecost and grape-picking Ferias) draw over a million visitors every year! This particular feria has been taking place on the third weekend of September every year since 1978. Dedicated to wine and grape-picking season, this festival is known to be even more spontaneous and convivial than its big sister, the Pentecost feria… By day the best bull-fighters of the world and top bull specimens engage in combat on the blood and sweat-soaked sand of the antique arenas… But by nightfall the entire city is bubbling with joy and conviviality, alive with concerts, DJ sets and great parties way into the night. From the Maison Carrée to the bodegas the city becomes one sprawling festival site. Thus, for three days the bull is king. But it isn't only about sport, its about festivity, pastis, sangria and Fino, but also music, peñas and bandas. Its about the fun in the streets, the hodgepodge crowds, the people you meet, the ambiance and of course, the beautiful city of Nimes.
